چکیده
This study evaluated the effect of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) on chemical composition (fibrous structure) and nutritive value Hedychium gardnerianum (ginger lily), a fibre source traditionally used in ruminant feeding Azores. Ginger lily samples were manually harvested dried forced-air oven at 65ºC until constant weight. Treatments applied by spraying ginger with NaOH solution concentration 0, 2, 4, 6, 8%, rate 1 L per kg dry lily, waiting 7 days. The subject to analyses laboratory for determination matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), ash, NDF (neutral detergent fibre), ADF (acid ADL lignin). DM digestibility (DMD) organic (OMD) determined vitro. treatment led significant (p<0.05) reduction vitro DMD OMD increase, best results obtained an 8% concentration. It was concluded that influences lily’s composition, reducing concentrations, increasing DMD. Key words: gardnerianum, digestibility, treatment, roughage.

Anti-acetylcholinesterase and antioxidant activity of essential oils from Hedychium gardnerianum Sheppard ex Ker-Gawl.
Acetylcholinesterase inhibition, antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of Hedychium gardnerianum leaf essential oils from S. Miguel Island were determined. All the oils inhibited acetylcholinesterase, with IC(50) values of approximately 1 mg/mL, showing no statistical differences between collection sites. Three oils presented mixed inhibition, whilst one was almost truly competitive. This activi...
متن کاملForest processes in the presence of wild ginger (Hedychium gardnerianum)
Wild ginger (Hedychium gardnerianum) is a tall rhizomatous herb that invades forests and shrubland fragments in northern New Zealand. In order to determine the impacts of this invasive weed on forest processes, comparisons of conifer-broadleaved forest patches with different densities of ginger were made at Opononi and Whangarei in Northland. Soil properties, vegetation structure, floristics, a...
متن کاملForage as a Primary Source of Mycotoxins in Animal Diets
The issue of moulds and, thus, contamination with mycotoxins is very topical, particularly in connexion with forages from grass stands used at the end of the growing season. Deoxynivalenol (DON), zearalenone (ZEA), fumonisins (FUM) and aflatoxins (AFL) are among the most common mycotoxins. The aim of the paper was to determine concentrations of mycotoxins in selected grasses (Lolium perenne, Fe...
متن کاملNIRS: Forage analysis and livestock feeding
This paper describes analysis by near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) and demonstrates the capacity of this technology to provide rapid, low cost and accurate estimates of feed composition. The need for an extensive database against which the instruments is calibrated and the importance of good wet chemistry backup to NIRS are emphasised, together with some of the diverse uses for NIRS...
متن کاملForage Quality and Feeding Management for Eastern Gamagrass in Wisconsin
Throughout Wisconsin, chopped straw often is purchased as forage and used within diets of dairy cattle to provide additional fiber, and maintain proper rumen function. For replacement heifers, straw is used commonly to dilute the energy density of the diet, limit voluntary intake, and prevent over-conditioning, especially within diets constructed for pregnant heifers weighing >1000 lbs. Unfortu...
